Did you hear it's my birthday?

It’s true. I’m turning 30 at the end of the month. To celebrate this momentous age, I’m participating in Strut Your Mutt, a dog walk to raise money for animal rescues and shelters across the country. I won’t actually be able to do the walk because I’ll be managing volunteers at the Salt Lake City event but I still wanted to participate in the FUNdraising.

I joined the Utah FACES Dog Pack, FACES is the non-profit side of Salt Lake County Animal Services, the shelter that serves my area. At my day job, I’m proud to say that I work closely with the shelter. They never euthanize for time or space and are statistically considered no-kill.

They have an awesome volunteer program in partnership with Best Friends Animal Society – Utah called the Cat Crusaders that works to increase cat adoptions. It’s very near and dear to my heart as that is where we adopted our baby Tut from.

Tut, the writer. Handsomest man. His memoir about living on the mean streets of Sugarhood will be out Fall.

I could go on and on about all of the awesome things they are doing but instead I am just going to ask you to donate to my Strut Your Mutt page and help me support them. I have a high goal of $3000. But when you break it down, it’s not that much, it’s just $10 for 300 people like you. No matter how big our small, your donation will make a difference for animals. 100% of your donation will go to SLCoAS, Best Friends Animal Society, the organization putting on the event, doesn’t take a cent.

Even if you don’t live in Salt Lake, you’ll be making a difference for animals all over. SLCoAS used to be a very high-kill shelter but now they are one of the leaders showing the sheltering world that through willing leadership and community involvement, going no kill is possible.

To show my thanks, if you leave me a comment and send me an email {typicalhousecat at gmail dot com} after you donate, I will send you a piece of jewelry handmade by me. Just put Strut in the subject line and include your ring size and mailing address.

  1. I can’t do anything right now but I’ll see if I can donate something in a few days. I am a big time animal lover (I do have two cats after all… =) ) and fully support efforts to home these wonderful animals.

Congrats on turning 30!! Happy early birthday!
