As promised yesterday, here is a tutorial to make some friendship earrings inspired by frieda&nellie, they are super simple to make and won’t take you long at all. I think they are actually faster to make than a full bracelet so make some extra pairs for your girls.
To make them you will need:
- A needle and thread
- Embroidery thread
- Floss cards (optional)
- 2 beads
- Earring posts & backs or lever back earrings
- Glue if you are using earring posts & backs
If you have the floss cards, divide each color of embroidery floss evenly between two cards so that you have 8 strands of embroidery floss on 8 different cards. The cards are super cheap at any craft store and they keep your threads from getting tangled so I definitely recommend them. Next, set them up to do the chevron weave like the picture above. I’m going to send you over to Honestly… WTF, because they have a great tutorial for Chevron Friendship bracelets. To make these earrings I used the Chevron pattern for 6 rows.
After completely six rows, in the regular chevron fashion, work each side independently of each other for 5 rows. It’s basically the same as the chevron pattern without knotting the two strands in the middle.
To make it less confusing, I recommend knotting all five rows on one side before moving on to the next side.
Once you finish all of your rows, knot the ends on each side. Trim the ends off and make a matching piece for your other ear. When you’ve got two, use the needle and thread to sew your bead in between the two sides.
Next turn your earring over. You can either glue a post the back of your top knot, or if you are using a lever back earring, sew it on to the back of the knot. Voila! Don’t forget to make a matching pair for your bestie!
