DIY Mitts – Upcycle a Sweatshirt
These DIY Mitts are the perfect project for a snow day. They take less than 30 minutes to make and you probably already have the supplies.
To make them you will need:
- A sweatshirt or sweater you no longer wear
- A needle and thread
- A seem ripper or small scissors
Place your hand on one of the sleeves so that the cough is on your rest and your hand is moving up the sleeve. Mark how long you want the mitt to be. I just used my silver but you could use a pencil or marker.
Cut the first mitt from your sleeve. Then use it as a pattern to create a mirror image on the other sleeve.
Turn both of the mitts inside out. Then place your hand on top of the mitt to determine where you will need to place your thumbhole.
Before you cut anything, you’re going to be sewing in three places. First at the very top of the seam where you cut the fabric. Second, you’ll sew at the top of the thumbhole. Last, you’ll sew at the bottom of the thumbhole. Once you’ve done that you can cut the theme where you want the thumbhole to be.
Repeat the same steps with the other minute. Turn both mitts right side out, trim the ends of your thread and your done.
Save the rest of your sweatshirt for another DIY. Let me know what you think in the comments and if you have any other projects you like to see.
